Thrift shop find...
I have wanted to recycle, reuse, and renew furnisher for a long while and now I have the time to indulge myself. I found this table/desk at a local thrift store. It was in pretty bad shape, with deep scratches and lots of kids glue and stickers attached. The glue came off with a little elbow grease and baking soda and I filled the scratches.
I have also been wanting to try painting a union jack. I somehow lost the pictures of the process. I primed first and then did an undercoat with ASCP antique white. After much trial and error I taped out the union jack (I used frog painting tape because it is not supposed to bleed etc. It bled just like the inexpensive masking tape and also when I peeled it off, it also peeled off a lot of paint fyi).
This is the result...
...it's painted in shades of green then topped with a latex finish.
I'm now working on my next project.....

I hope the neighbours weren't watching...
...today I put up the Christmas lights....
...I'm not a Christmasholic who has the Christmas tree up before December, but every year I find myself outside in the cold putting up the lights. Today was a beautiful day so I took advantage of it and put the Christmas lights up. But then....
...I got to the high bit and looked up...
...heights make me a wee bit uncomfortable so I went to the barn and got my riding helmet and jumping vest...I finished the job; I hope the neighbours weren't watching...

Putting summer to bed....
I have been so busy lately that my garden has become neglected. The last of the harvest bravely clinging to dying plants...
...and one lonely strawberry a little out of season...
...time to pick and weed...
...and summer has been put to bed.

My First Post....
...a year ago I created this blog site to chronicle our life on our hobby farm and after reading and following numerous wonderful blogs I finally feel brave enough to start posting. After leaving a fantastic career outside of the home, I am now able to pursue my passions for foraging for vintage collectables, renewing and redoing old furnisher, DYI projects, growing our own veg and generally enjoying life on the farm.
A great find...
...my hubby and I picked up these two great old chairs.
The horse hair and straw stuffing is hanging out of the leather backs; as with starting the blog
I am having a wee bit of difficulty deciding what to do with them - I'm thinking maybe ASP antique white with black upholstry?
